So sick to death of bread... Aug. 25th, 2005 @ 06:08 am
Just got back from lunch at the SCAD cafeteria here. Seriously everything is bread in some shape and fashion. Lacoste is like carb central. Seriously cannot wait to get back to real food. I really should be studying for my final at 4:30, but big shock - I'm not. Got another email from my friend who wants me to be the production designer for his play in the fall. Wants me to handle set, lighting, and costumes - which is awesome! A little wary if I can handle all that when I'm already going to be helping with "As You Like It" in the beginning of the fall. Emailed my professor about - I think it should work out alright though. I really need to get on making a website for my portfolio. That will be another project when I get back. Seriously am going to kiss my computer and my bed when I get home - I miss both of them equally. The computers here are so shitty and the internet is constantly down.

So since it's some people's last night here (lucky bastards) were having some "faux prom" action. I think we're all dressing up really tacky and getting wasted - I'm gonna need it after our final. We're supposed the know the entire history of theater (names, dates, sets, lighting, playwrights, etc.) from Elizabeathan theatre all the way up to the 1960's - good god. Think I got a good 68% of it down. So season 2 of the The O.C. is out today and I'm here in France unable to buy it...truly upsetting. Everyone here has watched everyone's movies at least three times over. There is so much down time here that it gets disgusting. I hate that I bitch so much about France now, but it feels like I've been over here forever - very ready to get back to rowdy college Savannah life. I was ordering some DVDs off Amazon about a week ago, and I seriously could not remember my address is Savannah. I had to sit back and think for like 2 minutes, and even then I was still not sure when I typed in - got it right though!

Because you know I'm not no hollaback girl.... Aug. 24th, 2005 @ 10:49 pm
We have four days left here in France. I am tweaking out - so ready to get back to the states. "Quills" went up last Saturday and Sunday, and people loved it! It could not have been a smoother run - no one forgot their lines, no one got hurt, and the audience was so responsive.

In other good news, I just got asked to be the Production Designer for two of my friends senior shows at SCAD. I'll be working on "An Evening with Guinevere" towards the end of fall quarter, and "Earthen Heroes" in the winter. Have a big final exam for Survey of Theater and Drama tommorow. Think I'm ready for it, but that's what I thought for the midterm and I got an 89. Really want to walk away from France with two A's this term. So basicaly the next couple of weeks look like this:

*Fly back on Sunday and get off in ATL
*Spend the night, drive back the SAV on Monday
*Get home, probably have to clean - then I am definitly eating me some mexican food!
*Get working on "As You Like It" - I'm getting back horribly late to work on it as it is...
*Immeadiately purchase the second season of The OC and have many couch parties watching it.
*Classes start on the 14th I think - Lighting and Scene Design 2, Advanced Costumes and Props, and
Directing and Stage Management looks like the course load for fall quarter.

Seriously I cannot wait to flop on my couch and catch my ass up on some MTV - yes really lame, but it is very exciting to me...

I accidentally hit it and my Ipod went "ahhhhhhhhh!" Aug. 12th, 2005 @ 10:26 pm
So last night we all proceeded to get extremely wasted and played drunken jenga, got yelled at by some french guy at the bar, and had make out parties in a camping tent...a little random, yes. The we had to be up at the ungodly hour of 9am to go to Nimes. All were hungover and we had an hour bus ride to Nimes. We did okay - only two people puked.

Cool ampitheatre in Nimes, shops, ate some Vietnamise (which took forever I might add) and basically wandered around. Then we went to Pont du Gard (A really big river with cliffs all around) Swam a little bit and then got the brilliant idea to go cliff diving - oh my good god... They didn't look that big when we were swimming over to them, but once my ass was up there - it might as well have been the Empire State. Two people went - which it was terrifying to watch them plummet. I then proceeded to throw myself over the cliff - The moment your feet leave the rock and your slowly plummeting, there is a thought of "Dear god this is going to last forever and I'm the biggest dumbass in the world..." Then it was over and we proceeded to go to an even higher cliff and jump. This time had to do running starts since the rock jutted outwards in the middle. The drop felt like a good three mintutes at least and then I got an enema (is that how you spell it?) up my right ear... As I am typing this I still have fucking water shot so far up my ear that it will not come out - very unsettled by that. Hopefully it will be fine in the morning.

Tonight is our friend Julia's birthday and there's supposedly a toga party tonight. Not sure if it will come off since it is supposed to start at 11 and it's 10:39 now and I see no togas anywhere...blah...I could just as easily go to bed right now - swimming and cliff diving has pissed my body off enough today, not sure if poisoning it with alcohol is the best thing.

Full run of "Quills" in the quarry tommorow. Woo! Playing a madman while breakig bottles and shaking trees during a riot - lets hope I'm not hungover!

Hey! You got the door open! Aug. 10th, 2005 @ 11:00 am
Had to get up and meet at the cafeteria today to go on our tour of the Marquis de Sade's chateau. We were all tweaking a bit because we've been itching to get in there since we came to Lacoste. Cool stuff - we got to see the cellars and the interior rooms that Pierre Cardin now owns and decorates himself. Also got to see Cardin's quarry - unlike our quarry there is no foliage and the fucker has electricity so they get to cast orange and blue lights all up on the rock faces - and it looks fucking gorgeous. It is excrutiatingly painful that we don't have electricity in our quarry. I so want to have lights to set the mood even more for our production. The only possible way to do it is to use the generator - too bad the thing is louder than a foghorn!

Had rehearsal yesterday in the quarry - with madmen and all this time. I get to play a madman as well as design the play - so I get double the fun. We had the most hilarious time. The play flows so much better with the madmen filling up the time in between scenes. I'm really tired still, but lunch is in an hour, and if I miss it I will be incredibly unpleasant to be around...

Had to be up by 9am today to meet Barbara and Jean-Pierre to go on more prop/set work adventures. We found this really cool junk shop near Coustellet. They had everything you could ever imagine. Anything we didn't know what it did - we just asked Jean-Pierre and he of course knew. I really hope I'm a vast wealth of knowledge when I get to be his age. For those of you who don't know, Jean-Pierre Soalhat makes mosaics, mostly mosaic tables, but he is commisioned quite a lot to do other things around the villages of France. He's sold to quite a lot of celebrities, including U2. He just said today a woman bought one of his tables to be used in a Bruce Willis period comedy. This stuff really excites me considering it's what I want to do as a profession, so it really wasn;t a bad day to be up at 9. So today we found:

* Two huge wooden crates - really old and cool looking to use as Madeline's tomb.
* A bunch of pieces of slate-ish stone things to use as old nametag signs.
* A really cool rusted iron jail door to use int he "prison area."
* A whole bunch of old rope to use in the Charenton set.
* More tin boxes for the severed limbs of the Marquis de Sade.

The best part is we got it all for 45 euros!! Then we had to go to the French equivalent of Wal Mart, E. Leclerc, and buy a bunch of torches. They're wood colored but we're going to spray paint them black and wrap them in diamond wire mesh stuff to make 'em look more gothic and insane asylum-ish! We get a private tour of the Marquis' chateau on Wednesday. It's sweet ass because we get to go down into the cellars and all that fun stuff - I can't wait.

» Hopefully the French or the British won't show up to the soccer game..then it will be just American!
Saw Cezanne's famous mountain today...it was cool...I was over it in about 20 minutes though. We had to stay there for an hour so the painting kids could have their fun. Then we headed over to Aix-en-Provence where I got to go prop shopping. "Quills" is going into dress rehearsals really soon so props have to be gotten asap. The list goes:

1) Quills (obviously)
2) Parchment paper
3) inkwell
4) Slates for nameblocks
5) tin boxes
and some other randomness...

After today, quills, paper, inkwell, and 3 of the boxes can be crossed off bitches! So tonight a random costume party has popped up. Being that we're in Lacoste with no way of getting costumes - I think I'm just going white trash ghetto....we'll see how that turns out. Watched Requiem for a Dream last night after not having seen it in forever. Still as fucked up as the first time - was highly depressed/moody for like 10 minutes then snapped out of it and we went to our one bar here...Yea so the party tonight is up in the rock quarry - don't really know who's brilliant idea that was. Hopefully we don't all break our necks while in our drunken states...

» Hoover, Hoover - No, you have to turn it on, not just make the noise...
Okay so yea it's been a while since the last update - Since the 4th I've been from Lacoste to Paris to Barcelona and back again. So from this past excursion I've come to the conclusion of:

::Why I love Spain more than France:
1) The people smell so much better
2) The people are much hotter
3) They serve stronger drinks in Spain
4) A lot more people speak in english
5) The beaches are much nicer
6) They have Pizza Huts in Spain
7) Ummm..I hooked up in Spain
8) yea the above should cover it

::Why I'm ready to get back to the States:
1) Air conditioning
2) Free coke refills
3) A little something called ice
4) My own bed
5) More than our one little bar here in Lacoste
6) To see all of my Savannah people

So yea, there you go. Other than that, It's nice to be back in quiet little Lacoste after traveling on train after fucking train everywhere with smelly people and random children and animals. I would also love to stop being glared at or looked upon curiosly by random spainards and french folk. So We travel to Aix-en-Provence tommorow. #1 goal of tommorow is to find props for "Quills" which goes up in 3 weeks! 3 weeks people. It's insane - actually insanely awesome...In other news, I saw War of the Worlds over here. I've been dying to see it forever and it finally came to Lacoste and so I saw it - even if it was in french. Pretty much got the basic idea of it anyways. Still going to see it english though, along with Willy Wonka, and Red Eye. I have gotten yet another person addicted to The OC. We watched the entire first season over here on our down time. Sadly I had to tell her all about season 2 because there won't be enough time to watch the entire thing before September 8th - Season 3 people - everyone watch it or die!

» Is it a shower? A baby shower?
So it's Bastille Day here in France! That's the French 4th of July for those of you who don't know. Excited but a little annoyed because I purposely woke up before 10 to get my ass down to the post office and cash a traveler's check for Saint Raphael tonight and they were closed. What's more embarrasing is that I forgot it was Bastille Day and was standing in front of the post office trying to get the freakin' door open with all these French guys passin' me probably thinking, "stupid american." Hopefully I can exchange it at the train station this evening. Travelers checks are completely useless over here - no one takes them! Only the post office and the bar here in Lacoste - and the bar doesn't like taking them either.

So yea - Saint Raphael tonight! We're supposed to get in around 9:30pm - prime time for partying. I cannot wait! Everyone go check out this. Friggin' gorgeous pick of the cliff with the lighthouse on it - and we're going there! It will be so great to finally get away from Lacoste for a weekend. This place tends to get boring after a little while.

We had a first rehearsal last night - pretty much just a constructive read of the somewhat finalized script. We're doing "Quills" but a more abridged version with some scenes from Marat/Sade thrown in there. I'm the only design student here so I get to have my way with the whole thing...motha fuckin' awesome! We're gonna put it on in this old quarry with all these old sculptures and huge boulders and graffiti from the 1800's. I should take some pics of it. And I also get to play a madman - 'cause that's always a bit of fun.

Lunch is in 20 minutes and I cannot friggin' wait. The food here spikes from really good to dismal over the weeks - really can't get a grasp on it at all. But it wasn't that great yesterday so maybe it will be something tasty today...

» Fucking ouch...
Saturday night last night....we went through like four bottles of wine and then beer at the bar. Needless to say everyone was shamammered. Passed out in bed about 3am and had some weird ass dreams.

So I booked the hotel for all of us in St. Tropez last night. Now I just have to work on the rental car situation. I already predict blowing through a ton of money in the next two weeks between Tropez and then Paris/Barcelona...shit. I need to become rich really soon somehow.

Sunday here and there's nothing to do. Half of the group is out on some painting/hiking action. Think it's a good time to go watch a movie..
